In April, vinyl enthusiasts celebrate their love of independently owned record shops on Record Store Day. October brings with it Record Store Day’s oft-overlooked sibling, Cassette Store Day. Local music and collectibles shop, Bric A Brac, are determined to celebrate Cassette Store Day with all of the enthusiasm it deserves, so they teamed up with local label Dumpster Tapes to organize one hell of a free show and pop-up local label fair on October 14th.
The Show
One set we’re looking forward to is Cupid Youth‘s. Cupid Youth’s newest offering, CYEP, is an exclusive Cassette Store day release from our friends at Dumpster Tapes, and we can bet we’ll be hearing a handful of songs from that album live. You can listen to it below, but you should absolutely make it yours on Saturday.
Also playing this Saturday will be Son of a Gun. Their upcoming album, Larry’s Cookies, is due October 14th, meaning it’s also a Cassette Store Day release, and will be available first to those in attendance. Don’t miss all of their garage rock goodness, because there’s sure to be plenty.
You can also expect incredible performances by Gal Gun, Beastii, and Mia Joy.
The Fair
Not only will bands be performing, but there will be a local tape label fair to kick the day off. Midwest Action will be tabling some of our finest cassettes at Bric A Brac, along with Dumpster Tapes and slew of other Chicago-based labels.
