This edition of Crowdfund Crawler bring us the Kickstarter campaign of Chicago indie-rockers, The Damn Choir. This past September the band found themselves in Brooklyn, NY where they recorded their third LP, Creatures of Habit. A follow-up to their well-received sophomore effort, You’re My Secret Called Fire, the album is set for a February release at the Hideout.
The Damn Choir has big plans for the $7,000 that they hope to raise with this campaign. Along with the physical production of CDs and vinyl, publicity, and a radio campaign, any leftover funds will go towards a seven week tour which leaves from the Hideout February 7, and doesn’t wrap up until the end of March.
The Damn Choir is truly a band that deserves your support. I’ve been fortunate enough to catch the group live on several occasions, including last year’s release show for You’re My Secret Called Fire, and I can without hesitation say that it was one of the best local shows I’ve had the pleasure of attending. The lyricism and instrumentation on Secret Called Fire are among the best in the genre, and I can’t wait to hear how Creatures of Habit lives up to its predecessor.
There are just under two weeks left to give, and as of writing this the band has reached just over $5,000 or their $7,000 goal.
Of course, being Kickstarter, your donations do not go unrewarded. Incentives for donating range from the standard physical merchandise like CDs, vinyl, posters, and t-shirts, all the way to one-of-a-kind experiences that include playing tambourine onstage, being in an upcoming music video, or having the group make you dinner. Choices, choices.
If you’ve got some extra funds this month, I would urge you to consider donating to The Damn Choir’s Kickstarter. Let’s do our best to ensure that they’re able to keep on making and playing music as long as possible.
