Record Store Day 2014 is fast approaching, and with it swarms of vinyl-enthusiasts will find themselves spending a lot of time waiting in lines. Beneath all of the fancy reissues, Record Store Day is about buying local and supporting your neighborhood record shops.
As an incentive for those browsing their shelves in person, record stores across the country host special events and in-store performances just for RSD. We’ve rounded up a few of our most anticipated in-store performances from Milwaukee, Cleveland, Indianapolis, and Chicago to point you in the right direction this Saturday.
Exclusive Company – 1669 N Farwell Ave, Milwaukee, WI
Wisconsin independent record store, Exclusive Company, will be hosting in-store performances and special events at all seven of their WI locations. We’ll be focusing on the Milwaukee shop here, so be sure to check their website and event page for details on their other six locations.
Exclusive Company Milwaukee has a full day of music planned starting at 2:30 PM with North Carolina’s Lost In The Trees and wrapping up with a set from MKE glam/party rock group Tigernite. Also playing at 5:45 PM will be MWA favorites, Animals in Human Attire.

Texas alt-rockers The Toadies will be in-store at Cleveland’s Music Saves signing CD and vinyl copies of the 20th Anniversary reissue of their 1994 debut, Rubberneck. Grab the details on the event page and catch The Toadies live at Grog Shop that night with Supersuckers and Battleme.

Although not a record shop, the Beachland Ballroom will be hosting free live music starting at 4:00 PM on Record Store Day. Made up of local Cleveland talent, the bill includes The Insurance Salesmen, The Commonwealth and headliners, Filmstrip. Grab all the necessary show details here.
Blue Arrow Records – 16001 Waterloo Rd, Cleveland, OH
Cleveland’s Blue Arrow Records will be hosting guest DJs all throughout the day ending with a special DJ set from Georgia Hubley and Ira Kaplan, members of indie rock band, Yo La Tengo. Check the event page for more details.
Indy CD & Vinyl – 806 Broad Ripple Ave, Indianapolis, IN
Indianapolis record shop, Indy CD & Vinyl will be going all out on Saturday with DJ sets in-store and live music in their performance tent outside complete with a bar sponsored by Sun King Brewing Company. The live music starts at noon with local punk rockers Raw McCartney and will continue on into the evening with a closing set by rapper SIRIVS BLVCK. Tucked away on the second floor of the “Reggie’s” complex on State Street lives Record Breakers. On Saturday, the record shop will be hosting almost seven straight hours of live music in just about every genre you could ask for. From psych/jam with Le Tour and country/blues with Corbin Marsh Band to indie rock with brontosaurus and dream-pop with Magicks, there really is something for everyone.
