Chicago-based painter, Zoe Nelson, has reimagined the canvas. In Nelson’s work, holes are cut out of the canvas to both make the physical structure a part of the art and to offer the viewer a place of pause. I admire the use of color, especially in “Waterfalls”, where the cutouts reveal a jarring red support that would have otherwise not disrupted the composition.
