Psychedelic Sunday: Verma, KWAIDAN, & Moss Folk at The Burlington Bar – 11/13

Well, we might as well call this “Psychedelic Monday” at this point, but let’s pretend this was posted yesterday. Tardiness aside, this week in Midwestern psychedelic music we have Chicago’s Verma playing the Burlington Bar with fellow locals Kwaidan and Milwaukee’s Moss Folk.

All three bands can be placed among the world of “drone-rock” but each bring some very different ideas to the table. Verma’s music has the ability to hypnotize you with its repetitive beats, ambient guitars, and far off distant vocals that can easily fade into the background when you’re not listening for them.

They also know how to create fast-driving psychedelic rock songs like the lead track from their latest album EXU.

Supporting Verma at the Burlington on Wednesday is Milwaukee experimental psychedelic act, Moss Folk. The band is the creation of Andrew James Shelp, the same person behind last year’s first annual Milwaukee Psych Fest. With a constantly rotating cast of musicians over the years, Moss Folk has been able to consistently keep an element of improvisation and experimentation both live and in their home recordings.

Rounding out this lovely drone filled evening is Chicago’s Kwaidan. Their debut album Make All The Hell of Dark Metal Bright may seem like another simple drone-rock album at first glance but it quickly reveals itself to be a brilliant piece of dark, brooding art rock. The band has pieced together samples of the album for your listening pleasure into a Soundcloud track.

Add to the mix The Burlington Bar’s fantastic drink specials and $2 PBR’s and this should prove to be a great night of experimental music.

It’s all happening Wednesday, November 13th at 9pm; there’s a $7 donation to get in and of course the event is 21+. Come out and support some local music this week.
