Psychedelic Sunday: The Black Angels announce Midwestern Tour Dates with Roky Erickson

Since they broke onto Austin’s music scene back in 2004, The Black Angels have been delivering fuzzy, menacing, high energy psychedelic rock. They’re now 4 studio albums in and nothing has changed. Guitarist, Christian Bland, has also been the driving creative force behind the country’s best psychedelic music festival, Austin Psych Fest, for the last 5 years.

Their 4th studio album, Indigo Meadow, was released last april, and is one their best yet. They manage to blend their ’60s pop sensibilities with psychedelic noise in a way no one else can.

More and more fantastic psychedelic groups are springing up all around the world, which is the whole reason I write these articles. The Black Angels have been at the forefront of this new psychedelic movement that has been steadily gaining popularity, especially since Austin Psych Fest came around in 2008.

Lucky for us, the band has hit the road again, this time with psychedelic rock legend Roky Erickson, the former frontman of ’60s psych innovators the 13th Floor Elevators. Their live show is always loud, full of energy, and something to see. Adding Roky to the bill is all the more reason to come out and see this tour.

Don’t forget to check out their new Clockwork Orange inspired video for the song “Black Isn’t Black” over at RollingStone.com, and catch them live with Roky Erickson this spring. It’s gonna be Texas Psych Rock at its very best.
