MWA Approved: Saintseneca at Pyramid Scheme – 7/9

Michigan’s favorite venue (one of them, at least), Pyramid Scheme, is host to one of our favorite Ohio folk rock outfits, Saintseneca, this Wednesday.

The band, in a few different forms, has been around since 2007, with Zac Little as the nucleus. Since starting out on the DIY circuit, the group has gained steam fairly quickly, releasing their second full-length album, Dark Arc, just this past April. Known for a their wide-range of instrumentation, their album has an over-arching folk feel with occasional post-punk and psychedelic-tinged pieces.

Saintseneca’s live performances are often praised for being warm, modest, and inviting. Band members share the spotlight on the stage and pass instruments around as the songs necessitate; they “fill the venue with that unifying sense of camaraderie, so that by show’s end every spectator [feels] initiated into the tribe of Saintseneca” (Sound of Boston, June 2014).

I’ve heard enough glowing reviews of Saintseneca’s live performance that any other musicians would just be the cherry on top – and what a cherry we have tonight. This evening is truly a Midwestern affair, with the remaining outfits on the bill hailing from the region as well. Also playing are husband and wife duo, Empire! Empire!, Grand Rapids-based emo pop outfit, The Cardboard Swords, and indie folk openers Watching for Foxes.

We recommend this show to all those music enthusiasts 18+. Tickets will only cost you $10 in advance, and $12 on the day of. Doors open at 8:00PM. For event details, click here; to purchase tickets, click here. Let us know what you think of it in the comments section below.
