MWA Approved: Mitch McLaughlin at House of Blues – 4/13

Chicago’s House of Blues may be known for hosting national touring acts, but on Sunday night the venue will be filled with local Illinois talent. The show features a packed bill with six different bands/musicians taking the stage. Among them will be MWA favorite, Mitch McLaughlin.

The Homer Glen singer-songwriter released his debut EP, Mitch McLaughlin is My Best Friend, in February and the acoustic EP’s four blues and folk influenced tracks do an excellent job of showcasing McLaughlin’s storytelling and vocal abilities. Back in February, we recommended giving the track “Dove” a spin and if you missed it then, there’s no time like the present.

Playing second to last on Sunday night will be Chicago instrumental post-rock group, Rhone. In late 2012, the quartet released their debut EP, Inter Sidera. If you dig ambient and moody instrumental rock, you can’t go wrong here.

Closing out Sunday’s show will be Shorewood indie-rockers, Loud Loud. The group released their six-track debut, Solace, last February, and the album stands as a sampling of the some of the genre’s best features complete with driving percussion, ambient guitar work, and building vocals that culminate in powerful and memorable choruses.

Rounding out the six-band bill will be The Waves, Chinatown Security, and One Way. The all ages show kicks off at 5:00 PM on Sunday at the House of Blues Chicago – 329 N Dearborn. Tickets are $12 at the door or $10 in advance of the show. You can order tickets online directly from Mitch at this link.
