MWA Approved: Emancipator Ensemble, Odesza, and Real Magic at the Beachland Ballroom – 1/24

The weather has been brutal these last few weeks, with slams from polar vortexes and then days that were deceivingly filled with sunshine and bitter winds. We could use a little warmth in Cleveland, and luckily, the Beachland Ballroom shall provide this evening with a lineup that boasts electronic-laden ensembles that are sure to get people moving enough to break up the ice in their veins. The warmth will be provided by Pacific Northwesterners Emancipator and Odesza, as well as California native Real Magic.

Doug Appling, otherwise known as Emancipator, creates ethereal soundscapes that are filled with gorgeous samples and catchy drumbeats that are sure to wash over the crowd like the hopeful rays of sun on the first warm day of spring.

Odesza is the production duo of Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight. Forming after meeting their senior year of college, Odesza creates the kind of music that will draw the hoopers forth from the crowd, ready to languidly express the sonic waves spilling over from the stage. The duo released their EP, “My Friends Never Die,” last September.

Drew Englander, or Real Magic, started in 2011 creating music that incorporates a variety of genres, experimenting with straightforward vocals layered amidst beats and samples that will keep the audience wondering where he will go next.

Tonight’s show is at 9:00, with doors at 8:00. $17 will get you in if you buy your tickets in advance or you can pay $20 at the door–your call. Either way, come on out and warm up with us.
