Midwest Action are very happy to be sponsoring this amazing night of south-side folk-rock this weekend at Martyr’s. Hailing from Joliet, Bad Saddles are poised to release their much-anticipated follow-up to their 2011 record Tanglewood. Celebrating the evening with the Brothers Streit (not to be confused with some other famous brothers that frequented the Joliet area) are fellow local bluegrass group The Leadfoot Band and Chicago’s Coyote Riot.
Skirting the line between folk, bluegrass, and traditional Irish music, Coyote Riot bring a great energy to whatever style of music they’re tackling. They’re sure to get the evening started right.
Bad Saddles will take the stage next to share the fruit of their labors and play some selections from their new album, Sad Battles. The band never disappoints. Take the chemistry of brothers Tim & Kyle Streit with the addition of a strong rhythm section (backed by John Stanis) and the added songwriting talents of multi-instrumetalists Nick Domberg and Scott Gregory, and you’ve got the best damn South-side Super-Group you’ve ever heard. Don’t leave the bar without a copy of this new album, it’ll get ya where you need to go. Here’s an oldie but a goodie from the band:
Headlining are a band that any Chicago bluegrass fan should know by now. The Leadfoot Band have been playing out for a few years now and have been hailed as one of Chicago’s best in their genre. Their last self-titled release features Wilco’s Pat Sansone on keys and is easily the best material the band has ever released. Download it via iTunes and Amazon, or pick up a physical CD here. For the full experience, stick around Martyr’s Saturday night and catch the band’s live show, it’s sure to be a party.
The doors open at 9pm and the shindig starts shortly after. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. This event is 21+.
