Another Thursday, another awesome line-up gracing the stage of The Empty Bottle. One thing we can always depend on is Empty Bottle’s ability to keep bringing the city great shows.
Opening this evening are Chicago favorites, Brontosaurus. Nicholas Kelley and Nicholas Papaleo formed Brontosaurus in 2011 as an outlet for their power-pop constructions. The duo puts on one hell of a show, often utilizing all eight of their limbs, and combining their distinct voices into a powerful performance.
Following Brontosaurus are Ghastly Menace. Their debut EP, Pitcairn, was released in 2010, and the outfit recently released two tracks off their upcoming album. “80′s” and “While You’re Here” are indie gold. Each song explores a different side of the band, with “80’s” being a catchy and energetic pop piece. Conversely, “While You’re Here” feels more orchestral and grand. They compliment one another nicely.
Debuting at the Empty Bottle this evening are Chicago indie rockers, Sunjacket. The quintet, barely a year old, has released four demos on their bandcamp, but I assure you these sound like anything but. I fell in love with these ambient, indie rock songs the instant I heard them. Each song was better than the last. I’m eagerly awaiting a full album, but very much looking forward to experiencing the live version of some of my favorite tracks. Preview “Grandstanders” below, and prepare yourselves for more harmonies and glowing guitar melodies on Thursday night.
The only thing I’m looking forward to more than the show itself is sharing the experience with all you lovely people.
It’s all going down on Thursday at our favorite Ukrainian Village bar and venue, The Empty Bottle. Grab $5 and arrive at 8:30 when the doors open; enjoy a drink or two before the show starts at 9:00. 21+. Head on over to Facebook and RSVP if you plan on going, even if you plan on “maybe” going.
Until then, enjoy the tunes, and we’ll see you on January 16th.
