MWA Approved: North by North at Empty Bottle – 1/23

‘Tis the season for great concerts! Last week, The Empty Bottle hosted a handful of great shows, including Sunjacket, Royale, and BAATHHAUS, and the tradition continues into this week. Chicago’s North by North will celebrate the release of their debut album, Something Wicked, with a show at the Empty Bottle on Thursday.

The pop blues rock trio is comprised of Nate Girard on vocals and guitar, Kendra Blank on vocals and keyboards, and Dylan Andrews on drums. At their inception, North by North traded in the traditional bass player in favor of keys and never looked back. The outfit is quickly rising in the ranks of the Chicago music scene, so we recommend catching them while tickets are still affordable.

Influenced by the shadowy, dark pop majesty of Queens of the Stone Age and the downright possessed guitar work of Jack White, North by North have sweated it out in basements and clubs over the last six years, working their way up to what would become Something Wicked: a spastic, yet finely-honed journey to where garage rock, 70’s psych, and arena anthems meet.

You may recall our preview of their listening party, in which they celebrated the digital release of their album. Pressed on minty green 160 gram vinyl, the physical release not only sounds good, but looks good too.

Also playing with North by North are Aktar Aktar and The Ivorys.

To enjoy North by North’s album release with them, simply arrive at the Empty Bottle (1035 N. Western Avenue, Chicago) around 8:30PM. The show will only cost you $8, and if you prefer to purchase online, click here. Music begins at 9PM. As always, the Empty Bottle is a 21+ venue, so unfortunately those under 21 will only hear stories of this wonderful album release.

If you’re coming, let us know in the comments below, and maybe we’ll see you there!
