One our favorite Chicago psychedelic groups are impressing us once again with a new single that made its debut in December as well as the promise of two new EPs this year. Secret Colours never seem to rest.
Although the quartet has undergone a few lineup changes (singer-guitarist Tommy Evans and drummer Justin Frederick are the only current members who played on the band’s last album), their current bassist, Eric Hehr, managed to put together a great video for their ’60s inspired track “It Can’t Be Simple”.
The video is as retro as the sound, using stock footage of technology from the past and some wild animation of vinyl grooves and sound waves. See for yourself, it’s truly an experience to watch.
Their last full-length album Peach, made plenty of Top 10 lists in 2013 (including my own) and the band has shown no sign of slowing down. After a slew of local dates at the end of the year, they headed down to the mecca of psych music (Austin, Texas) to record the tracks that will make up their upcoming 2014 EPs.
The band will be putting out these two new self-released EPs this year, Positive Distraction Part I on February 4th, and Positive Distraction Part II on April 29th.
