MWA Premiere: Holden Laurence “A Whisper and She Takes Me”

There’s no doubt if you’ve seen The Modern Electric live, you’ve witnessed the intense musicianship that radiates from guitarist Holden Laurence, who’s slated to release his debut album next month. There’s something about the way Laurence writes that is at once nostalgic and eagerly presses forward, leaving his mark in an effortless way. On “A Whisper and She Takes Me”, the second single from his forthcoming album Wild Empty Promises, the Berklee grad builds a simple soundscape that showcases his unique voice, which could easily become as identifiable as that of Morrissey or McCullough. The song’s backing vocals will have you singing along by their second entrance, but it’s the cascading guitar lick at its exit that will be stuck in your head all day. Give it a listen below:

Holden Laurence will release his full-length debut, Wild Empty Promises, on May 5th, 2017. If you’re in Cleveland, head over to the Beachland Tavern to celebrate the release with a show at 8pm, also featuring Bad Hounds and John’s Little Sister.
