No one does folk quite like local quintet, Paper Thick Walls. Since 2011, PTW has won audiences over with their narrative lyricism and powerful live performances. Their brand of indie folk rock is dripping with gorgeous male-female harmonies and orchestral instrumentation. Violin swells, piano melodies, and delicate guitar lines all combine into elaborate compositions. This Friday at the Double Door in Chicago, you can experience the phenomenon yourself.
The outfit has had a busy year performing throughout the Midwest and East Coast. Between a handful of summer music festivals, including Taste of Chicago and Summerfest, Kate Schell and Eric Michaels have somehow managed to also play the principal roles, compose, and perform the soundtrack in an upcoming feature film entitled “We Grew Up Here“. They’ve been named one of the top five emerging artists from Chicago by The Deli Chicago and Chicago Magazine. I could go on but instead will just summarize: Paper Thick Walls has an impressive and well-deserved resume.
This year, the band is set to release an EP that will showcase five new songs. We can only hope they’ll sneak a song or two in on Friday, but even if all we hear are favorites from A Thousand Novels, it’ll still be one hell of a show.
