MWA Video Premiere: “New Version of the Song” by The Hudson Branch

We last spoke with Chicago alt-pop quartet The Hudson Branch last May, just days before the release of their latest album, Kina Ze Swah. After it’s release, the guys took the record on the road and headed west, saying about the experience:

“Between the long road trips and changing landscape some of our songs started to take a different shape, most notably ‘New Vision Of The Sun’.  We found ourselves in the Black Hills of South Dakota and wanted to document what had become of it.”

The video for the reimagined track, cleverly titled “New Version of the Song”, sets the band in front of Mount Rushmore with nothing but an acoustic guitar and their voices. The track unfolds in stark contrast with its synth-driven studio counterpart and quickly takes on a decidedly folksy tone. It’s an interesting glimpse into how songs can change and grow over time into something entirely new.

Check out the album version of “New Vision of the Sun” along with the rest of Kina Ze Swah on The Hudson Branch’s Bandcamp page. You can also catch the guys live as they set out on tour this spring, kicking things off at The Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids, MI on April 15. Details here.
