MWA Premiere: “The Overlook” by Freaks for Geeks

In August of 2013, Freaks for Geeks released their debut EP, Smoke ‘Em If You Got ‘Em. We dug it, we talked to them, and we hosted their CD release show at The Empty Bottle. It was a whirlwind of a romance, but eventually the outfit needed to “take some time for itself”, and we stopped hearing from them quite as often.

After a brief hibernation, Freaks are back with the first single off their forthcoming EP, Whatever It Takes. If you haven’t yet been introduced to F4G, “The Overlook” is a fitting place to start. In a touch over three minutes, the band proves their ability to fuse their two distinct sides logically into one song. With a solid rock foundation, they power through hip-hop inspired verses and melodic choruses with just a touch of funk throughout. The balance between the elements that make up this track make it a good listen – and a fun one, too.

Celebrate Freaks for Geeks’ sophomore EP with us on January 22nd at the Emporium. We dig the Emporium, and we dig the tunes, so we think it’ll turn out alright. RSVP to the FREE show here, and save up your quarters for that Thursday. Also on the bill are Common Shiner, Natalie Grace Alford, and The Van Goghs. It’s going to be a heck of a time.
