MWA Approved: Graham Nash and Contemporary Youth Orchestra – 6/5

On June 5th, the Contemporary Youth Orchestra will perform with legendary musician Graham Nash. The 115-piece orchestra will partner with the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee to bring to life some of Nash’s songs at Severance Hall.

Known as one third of the power group Crosby, Stills and Nash, Graham Nash is a legendary singer-songwriter whose passionate voice has been heard the whole world over in support of peace and social and environmental justice. Because of his contributions as a musician and philanthropist, Nash was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth. His artistic contributions extend far beyond music, as he is also a photographer and visual artist whose work has been shown worldwide. His 1969 portrait of David Crosby is housed in the National Musuem of American History at the Smithsonian Institution.  Nash was asked to perform with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra because they felt his messages of peace, love and justice still hold weight and relevance now as when they were first penned. This special performance will include “To The Last Whale,” “Simple Man,” “Burning for Buddha” and “Soldiers of Peace,” as well as many others.

Contemporary Youth Orchestra, lead by Liza Grossman, is the first youth orchestra in the country dedicated to the performance of new music. Celebrating their 20th season, the group continues to embrace the changing role of an orchestra as they take the stage for collaborations such as this Nash performance and their return later this summer as the official orchestra of the Alternative Press Music Awards.

Tickets are available here for their performance with Graham Nash on June 5th at Severance Hall in Cleveland, Ohio. The concert will begin at 8pm.
