Hot damn, do I want summer more than ever after listening to Step Rockets‘ most recent release, “Turning Tides (By Your Side)”. As the song started, I felt the 11° winter melt away, revealing an indie pop paradise laden with marimba, a bass-heavy beat, and infectious hooks. The Minneapolis foursome fuse pop punk vocals with electronic melodies and an indie pop spirit, and they do so very well, proving their aptitude at writing genre-blending tracks.

Turn the volume up – way up – and shamelessly groove to this song. It doesn’t matter where you are or what you’re doing. You’re going to dig it, especially if the February weather is getting you down:

No surprise here, but I’m loving this big, anthemic track. Here’s hoping their much-anticipated EP is released sooner rather than later, and that the rest of the album channels this song’s awesome energy.

February 21 at Anderson Center of Hamline University in St. Paul, MN (tickets)
