Give It A Spin: “Life Ant” by Bill Tucker

Prolific experimental guitar player Bill Tucker has released the first track from his upcoming full-length, a gorgeous post-rock exploration called “Life Ant.”

Now in his tenth year of regular creative output, Tucker is already having an extremely productive fall. His band A.M. Stations just put out an excellent new tape called Sign of Times at the end of September, and this month he’s releasing a solo full-length on Maximum Pelt. This new record unites tracks from two 2012 cassette releases on 1980 Records, Punk Fills and Sad Bad Mittens.

“Life Ant” comes from the former and serves as this album’s opening track. Idyllic and soaring, Tucker’s guitar playing shines throughout. The melody winds and tumbles, Explosions in the Sky across the Midwest, before erupting into a middle movement more like a Rainer Maria ballad thanks to the warmth of the guitar tones and Tucker’s rambunctious delivery.

You can purchase Punk Fills/Sad Bad Mittens online (vinyl, digital download), or you can grab a copy from Bill himself at his record release show on Monday, October 12th at The Empty Bottle (9 PM, FREE, 21+). Foul Tip, Lil Tits and Ed Schrader’s Music Beat also perform.
