MWA Approved: WMC Fest Friday – 8/16

Now in its 4th year, WMC Fest is a must-attend event for creatives in the Midwest. Its goal is to inspire and enable the creative mind and will feature 20 speakers, 20 designers, and over 30 bands over the weekend. Between three days of art, music, and industry talks, there is more than enough to do, and Midwest Action is here to help you sort through some of it.

Midwest Action introduced the festival back in May, and now it’s right around the corner! Weapons of Mass Creation begins with a Friday evening kick-off. The kick-off includes an attendee meet-and-greet, followed by four hours of awesome, local music. Two of our favorites below:

8:00-8:40 SEAFAIR
Facebook | Bandcamp

It is rumored that seeing Seafair perform live is nothing short of “exhilarating”, but you have to experience it for yourself to confirm. A myriad of influences make up Seafair’s sound, ranging from the classical to rock to punk to pop genres. Singer Chayla Hope’s bellowing vocals reel in the audience from the first song; the energetic tunes and unexpected inclusion of cello and violin keep them hooked.

10:00-10:40 THE MODERN ELECTRIC
Facebook | Bandcamp

Those in the market for generally great pop music simply need to be introduced to The Modern Electric to stop their search. Their most recent release, All We Have Is Now (listen below), is in advance of a full-length album slated for release this year. It’s energetic and urgent and dripping with piano melodies and confident vocals. I thought “All We Have is Now” was a great track, seemingly impossible to top. And then “David Bowie Save Us All” began playing. If these two songs are a sampling of what The Modern Electric has brewing, their live show will be worth every penny.

If the WMC Friday Preview has this much talent to offer, the subsequent two days are guaranteed to be jam-packed with not only good tunes, but good art as well! Stay tuned to Midwest Action as we continue to preview the festival through the week.

Will you be there for the Friday Festivities?
